Autowatch Ghost 3 (Ghost III) CAN-FD Immobiliser
Ghost III is Autowatch’s current CAN-FD immobiliser, also written as Ghost-III. It’s designed to block unauthorised driving: as well as having the key, the driver has to authorise themselves. OJB Autocare supplies and fits Ghost III, and we quote after checking your exact vehicle.
What’s different from Ghost II
Autowatch’s comparison sets out two technical differences. Ghost III works across two CAN networks, where Ghost II works on one. Ghost III also supports high-speed CAN-FD, which Ghost II doesn’t. These differences mainly affect which vehicles each unit can be fitted to.
If you already have a Ghost II, Autowatch says the move to Ghost III in production doesn’t mean your installed unit needs upgrading. The choice matters when you buy your next vehicle. Our Ghost immobiliser installation page explains how we handle Ghost fitting generally.
How authorisation works
Autowatch describes more than one way to authorise. One option is a personal sequence entered using buttons already in the vehicle. Key-tag and smartphone authorisation are also described. Your methods are agreed and configured at installation, and we take you through your own setup when we hand the vehicle back.
Autowatch supports vehicle-specific immobilisation methods for Ghost III, using whichever CAN or LIN methods apply to the vehicle and, where needed, analogue methods. Not every installation uses the same approach. Exactly how your car responds if someone tries to drive it without authorising depends on the vehicle, and we’ll show you how yours behaves as part of the handover.
Garages, valets and factory features
Service/valet mode lets you hand the vehicle over temporarily, for example to a garage or valeter, without sharing your authorisation. You’ll be shown how to use it at handover.
Autowatch says Ghost III can preserve some factory app features, such as remote heating and cooling, depending on the vehicle. If you rely on a manufacturer app feature, mention it when you enquire and we’ll check what applies to your car.
Will it fit my car?
We check fitment against Autowatch’s compatibility records for your specific make, model and year, including which product is listed. A car with CAN-FD can’t be assumed suitable for Ghost III, so we check before quoting. If your vehicle is under warranty, Autowatch advises raising any warranty concerns with the vehicle manufacturer or dealer before fitting.
Ghost III alongside a tracker
Ghost III is an immobiliser rather than a GPS tracker or a Thatcham S5/S7 product. If you also want location monitoring after a theft, or your insurer asks for a tracker, we can quote Ghost alongside a Scorpion S7-ALS or S5-VTS. Package prices are given on enquiry.
